Bespoke Manufacturing and Product Development at CPP®

19 December 2024CPP® Technical Guidance
CPP bespoke manufacturing and development from design through production

Standard fittings solve most fluid-transfer connection problems. Sometimes the application needs a different thread combination, a modified existing fitting, a security feature or a completely new moulded component. CPP® can develop those requirements into practical production parts.

Start with the connection and application

Development begins by understanding the mating connection, dimensions, liquid, temperature, operating conditions and expected quantity. Where possible, we build on proven CPP® components and design principles rather than starting from a blank sheet.

Design, CAD and tooling

CPP® designs polymer fittings and the associated mould tooling in the UK. A project can involve adapting an existing component, creating modular tooling or developing a completely new moulded part. Prototypes and early production parts can then be checked against the mating equipment before the design is committed to repeat manufacture.

Three routes for a development project

  • Customer-specific: developed for a particular customer or supply chain.
  • Market development: created from a customer requirement but suitable for wider CPP® catalogue use.
  • Bespoke component: a new part outside the normal range but suitable for CPP® materials and manufacturing methods.

Production volume matters

Injection moulding becomes more economical as repeat volume increases. Very small quantities can sometimes be better suited to machining or fabrication, while repeat demand can justify dedicated or modular tooling.

Materials and documentation

Material selection depends on the application. CPP® commonly works with polypropylene and glass-filled polypropylene for industrial fluid-transfer components, with seal materials selected separately. Technical documentation and material information can be supplied where relevant to the project.
