CPP® IBC Vents & Lids covers 150 mm (6″) S160X7 female buttress-thread IBC fill caps, vented lid assemblies, pressure and vacuum relief vents, threaded blanking arrangements and replacement vent seals for compatible IBC containers.
Correct IBC venting is important during both storage and discharge. As liquid leaves an IBC, replacement air must enter the container. If the available air-in flow is too low, negative pressure can develop and pull the bottle walls inward. This is especially important with many newer IBC bottles, which can use thinner wall sections and may deform quickly under vacuum.
Positive pressure also needs careful control. IBCs may be leak-tested at low pressure, often around 2–3 psi, but this is not a working-pressure rating. Standard IBC bottles can visibly bulge or move at relatively low internal pressure and should not be treated as pressure vessels.
Current venting options
The current HMVMN20MM027 pressure and vacuum relief vent provides approximately 100 L/min air-in flow and is intended for controlled or intermittent gravity discharge rather than rapid continuous emptying of a full 1,000 L IBC.
For greater venting capacity, the 150 mm (6″) twin-vent lid uses two automatic pressure and vacuum relief vents, with approximately 200 L/min combined airflow. Even with the twin-vent arrangement, the liquid discharge rate must remain within the available venting capacity.
If the IBC walls begin to pull inward during discharge, stop the liquid flow and allow the container to recover before continuing. Do not assume that any vent can match the full unrestricted flow of an open IBC outlet valve.
Next-generation CPP® IBC vent
CPP® is currently developing a new high-flow pressure and vacuum relief vent for IBC applications. Testing is being carried out across a range of new and used IBC designs to measure air-in flow, pressure-relief performance and container deformation under realistic operating conditions.
Early development results indicate a substantial increase in both vacuum-relief and pressure-relief capacity compared with our current venting products. Production release is targeted for the end of 2026, with final verified performance figures and comparative data to be published when testing is complete.
Always select the lid and vent configuration to suit the actual IBC connection, required discharge rate and the container manufacturer's operating limits.
